World of Warcraft’s next expansion, Shadowlands, is scheduled to be released before December 2020 (Probably August). With no major releases between the latest patch Visions of N’zoth and Shadowlands, players will be going through ~6 months without content. Some people take a break between these times, but there is much to do in these times. If you want to avoid getting bored and want to know what to do before the Shadowlands release, we have some great ideas.
Things to do Before the Shadowlands release
World of Warcraft is a game with a lot of different aspects and playstyles, so you always find something to do in it. There is a wide range of activities you can do while there are no content updates until the Shadowlands launch, activities like PvE, PvP, Old contents, Battle Pets, Quests and so on. While some might not attract you, but we suggest you give it a shot!
Leveling up an Alt
If you are into PvP or PvE aspect of the game, you can change things up by leveling another character with a different class to max level. Having alts also give you an advantage in the Shadowlands, where classes get changed a lot, as you can swap between classes easily if you don’t like the class you are playing right now. To change things up, even more, you can try playing another spec, you might like them more than your main!
If you only play PvE, you can start playing PvP to experience the other side of World of Warcraft. You can start diving into PvP by joining Battlegrounds or Arena Skirmishes. Player versus Player mode is known for being fast-paced in decision making and actions. You can also acquire items and essences along the way.
On the other hand, if you are a PvP player you can dive into PvE and start playing in this environment. You can start playing in PvE by doing Raids and Mythic+. Mythic+ with the new seasonal affix, Awakened, is friendlier than the last season for players starting in PvE and Mythic+.
By doing both of these activities you can get ready for changes that might happen after Shadowlands release that might change what you like!
Old World Content
There is a lot of content in World of Warcraft that has become useless-ish with each expansion. But there are some communities still doing those old contents, like Classic Raids in Bfa, or other expansions raids. XPOff is one of those communities where you can find a lot of guilds doing these old contents. They revisit old contents by locking character experience gain at the max level for that expansion. For example, if you want to experience Wrath of the Lich King again, you will have to lock one character level at 80 and to all the contents you like from that expansion.
Play WoW Classic
Speaking of old world contents, if you are interested in experiencing old days of WoW, not with the modern systems and QoL changes, you can start playing World of Warcraft Classic. WoW Classic does not require you to buy anything other than an active Game Time!
World of Warcraft Classic is worth trying to see how much the game has changed over the years, and how the focus of Classic is a lot different than Battle for Azeroth and modern WoW in general. While Classic is focused on community and the journey to max level but has normal or somewhat limited end-game, Modern WoW is more concerned about end-game and contents are focused on making the end-game more enjoyable.
if you decided to play WoW Classic, you read our Classic Preparation Guide to know better what realm to play, or what class to level up.
You can start your way toward getting Loremaster achievement by completing the main storyline of each zone. This achievement is a hard one to get and require a lot of time and effort to get. You can start working on Loremaster while leveling up an alt, or do it in your spare time. Doing Loremaster also makes you more familiar with the lore of the game and Shadowlands, so you can enjoy the game, lore-wise, more.
After getting Loremaster’s achievement you can show off with the Loremaster tabard and title.
Glory of the Raider
Speaking of achievements, you can start getting raid’s Glory achievements for mounts and achievement points. The glory of the Raider achievements requires a group of people coordinated to get achievements as most of the achievements are dependant on your group and require different tactics.
If you are not interested in doing any of these activities mentioned above, you can do side activities with your main character to avoid boredom.
Since the Legendary Cloak upgrade is infinite, and you can level up your Cloak past level 15, you can do Horrific Visions each week to upgrade your cloak or buy the cosmetic items offered by Wrathion.
You can also start doing Battle pet fights in your spare time to experience a small part of WoW. Collecting Battle pets and fighting with them also helps you do Legendary Battle Pets World Quests to speed up your reputation gain with some factions.
Mount & Toy Collection
Although mount collecting for many is not a side activity, you can start collecting mounts and toys one at a time!
Collecting mounts also give achievement points and your character more choice of style!
No matter whats your play style in World of Warcraft, there are many activities you can do before Shadowlands release, so take your time and enjoy WoW. You can also take a break if you feel this game has nothing to offer to you for now.
