World of Warcraft: Shadowlands players are getting their max level 120 squished down to 60. For the pre-patch experience, players will be brought to level 50. When the expansion launches, players will be able to level from 50 to 60 for the best experience.
A level squish refers to changing the way a character gains experience and new levels. With the new reduced level cap to 60, it will be easier for the players to reach the endgame. Players will get faster access to end game raids and won’t need to spend much time questing in the old zones. On the other hand, level squish helps Blizzard balance and adjust the characters’ stats.
A level squish has been a long-rumored change for years now. Each new expansion added 10 new levels for characters to reach since WoW’s first launch. That is to say, it’s becoming an unpleasant and long journey to reach the endgame. Players have been complaining that the overall experience and new skills are too thin because of the level cap.
With Legion’s launch, Blizzard introduced level scaling that made every zone scale to your character’s current level within a certain range. It made exploring Azeroth’s older zones much more enjoyable. But, a level squish will make the game more accessible to new players.
Every Level Is Meaningful: Shadowlands will introduce a new leveling system, meant to provide a meaningful sense of advancement with every level achieved. Current max-level characters will begin Shadowlands at level 50 and work toward the new level cap of 60.Blizzard Official Report
