The Council of Six

The Kirin Tor is a group of the most powerful mages on Azeroth with headquarters in Dalaran. This organization is ruled by a high council, that goes by the name – The Council of Six. These six individuals containing the high council are the leaders of both the city and all territories under the control of Dalaran.

In this period, shortly before the Second War, Kel’Thuzad was a member of the high council and one of the six leaders of Dalaran. He, as one of the leaders, was the most eager to learn more outside of his current reach. Kel’Thuzad was particularly eager to gain access to the Guardian’s Library. After the death of Medivh and the destruction of the library, Kel’Thuzad was the most upset about the loss amongst all of the magi.

The Lich King

Shortly after, Ner’zhul, the Lich King, was seeking ways to expand his powers around the world. He started a quest where he would acquire new Lich King agents.

Several powerful individuals, scattered across the world, heard the powerful mental summons of the Lich King from Northrend. One of these individuals was Archmage Kel’Thuzad, the member of The Council of Six.

He, as one of the senior members of the Kirin Tor was always considered a maverick – mainly due to his curiosity and insistence of studying the forbidden arts of necromancery.

Willing to learn all he could about the magical world, the Archmage bent his will to the powerful summons from Northrend. He decided it is time to pursue more of the magic world and vowed to learn everything he could from the powerful being named The Lich King.

Arriving in Northrend

Abandoning his fortunes and political standing, Kel’Thuzad abandoned the ways of the Kirin Tor and left Dalaran forever. Empowered by the Lich King’s voice in his mind, he traveled alone over vast seas and lands before reaching the frozen shores of Northrend.

On his way towards Icecrown, Kel’Thuzad passed through the ravaged ruins of Azjol-nerub. From what he just saw, his conclusion about the power and ferocity of the Lich King led him to believe that allying with this powerful being was a wise decision.

After long months of traveling through the harsh arctic wastelands, Kel’Thuzad finally reached the dark glacier of Icecrown. Upon approaching the Lich King’s citadel, he was shocked when the undead guards let him pass through as he was expected. Upon finally reaching the Frozen Throne, he bowed down and offered his soul to the lord of the dead.

The Lich King was pleased to see the Archmage offering his service. He promised Kel’Thuzad immortality and great power in exchange for his loyalty, service and obedience.

A New Vision and Mission

Kel’Thuzad, eager for dark knowledge and powers, proudly accepted his first mission – to go back in the world of men and establish a new religion that would worship the Lich King as a god.

To help the Archmage in his mission, the Lich King left his humanity intact. The Archmage was charged with using his powers of illusion and persuasion to lure the masses of Lordaeron into his confidence. Once he had their attention and had them under his control, he would offer them a new vision of a true king – the Lich King.
